the most depressing cheer 🎵 📢
Are you burned out of hearing about burnout?
It feels like it's as much of a buzzword as "recession" and "inflation" - and just as unpleasant.
It creates the most depressing cheer ever. 🎼
Give me burnout! (Burnout!)
Give me recession! (Recession!)
Give me inflation! (Inflation!)
Put them all together and what do you get?!?!....
(Burncession? 😉)
If you just tuned into your body, you can probably answer readily - you can absolutely feel the deflation in yourself and others around you.
Whether constructs, temporary states of being, or objective reality, the emotional resonance is there.
The internal narratives persevere in their chaos-making...
How much longer can I keep living and working like this?
What if I have to do it even longer because of this economy?
Is this really what I have to put up with to survive and take care of my family?
What if I can't do it anymore?
Why isn't the ground opening up to swallow me?
I'd really love a ride on a sea turtle right now! (What?!? You mean, that's not your escape fantasy?!?) 🐢 😂
If you're anything like the amazing clients I serve, you are worn down enough from the state of the world, the panic about what's coming next, and the day-to-day routine that holds little novelty or relief and delivers excessive demands, complaints, and doubt.
Hearing constantly about burnout, doing more self-care, "quiet quitting", and the impossible results that are expected from you (yesterday!) despite the lack of support and resources provided...ugh. 😒 It wears you down and sends you looking for your next cup of coffee or escape fantasy. Neither of which ultimately changes the problems or offers longterm solutions.
Sadly, if you also work on the front lines of changemaking (whether in paid, assigned, or unrecognized roles), you are likely to be at even higher risk of overwork, lack of psychological safety, and lack of reward - all central contributors to the experience of burnout.
I don't know about you, but I am tired of the focus on burnout without avenues to actually alleviate the suffering and create sustainable and effective pathways that support wellbeing AND changemaking!
It's part of why I love my work, and how I stay engaged and excited about the opportunities to do more of it with inspiring and resilient people like you - people who care so deeply, give so much, and could use a space to recover and recognize their own shine again.
Since for years I have been unable to accommodate the number of individuals I would love to support, I am especially excited for you to see and pass along my new website. It represents the group and organizational offerings that may help you, someone you know and love, or an organization's efforts to support their changemakers.
If this resonates with you or reminds you of someone you know, please reach out through this email or via my website and I'd be glad to talk further about how I can help support those who are shouldering the loads and ready to interrupt the burnout cycle.
You matter. You can make a difference. I'm so thankful you're here.
