Where do you fit in?
How can it already be time to order next year's calendar pages!?!? π€£
Despite the teasing of my more recent clients, I have been using the same paper planner since I first started my independent practice in Houston, TX, nearly 20 years ago! The cover is beaten and worn, but there's something about the pen to paper visual that I'm reluctant to replace.
Still, it surprises me every year when I come across the re-order page.
It feels like the year just started, and they're telling me it's already time to prepare for the next!!! π€ͺ
If you're like most people I know, it's easy for the reminders of time passing to add to internal overwhelm...
β° The private (and endless) to-do list
β° The pressure to get more done, faster
β° The fear of regret, not doing enough, letting others down, or failing
β° The urgency of the needed changes that are far overdue in the world
Like the Anxiety character in Inside Out 2, calendar pages can quickly turn into a chaotic and panicked frenzy of fear and scarcity.
Stomach churning. Shoulders tight. Back aching. Head spinning...
How can you possibly get it all done before it's time to do it all again?
How do you normalize the reality of things slipping through the cracks without coming down on yourself like a sledgehammer? π¨
And how on earth is it physically possible to squeeze in a walk, a meditation, or even a shower?!? πΏ π€£
From that place, it can be SOOOO difficult to have perspective on what matters most... let alone to figure out where you fit into your own calendar!
When you are reminded of the persistence and consistency of time passing - where do you place your emphasis?
On the unfinished tasks, criticisms, and self-doubt for not being further along?
Or...
π On creating moments of connection, compassion, and courage.
π₯³ On celebrating moments of laughter, silliness, and joy.
π₯° On nurturing moments spent honoring love for self and love for others.
The present moment feels most expansive when we can be fully in it. (Even though that's hard to do with all the competing noise).
How do you choose to cherish the precious passing of time?
How do you fit into your own calendar?
You matter. You make a difference. I'm so thankful you're here.
