When you try something new and it works

Do you know the feeling when you try something, and it doesn't work?  I mean, despite your best intentions, and sincere efforts, it just does not work out as hoped (or maybe flops and "fails" entirely)?

Do you also know the feeling when you try something new, you're apprehensive and nervous the whole way through, and then the results amaze and unburden you and you wish you'd tried it out years ago?

Which do you prefer?  (No, it's not a trick question).  As much as you may believe you prefer the second, many people experience it less often because trying something new is inherently scary - and you likely delay or avoid new and scary.

You just can't tell what's going to be on the other side.  Same feels safe, even if it doesn't feel good.

That said, it's hard to deny the relief when something does really work - something you've struggled with over and over - like that conversation with the family member (you know the one)!  Or when you get a chance to truly relax (despite that endless list of things to be done) and your whole being lightens.

And it actually feels best, and people are healthiest, when they choose BOTH their emotional health and living out their values of compassion and justice.

I keep pushing through the parts of this - technology, visibility, social media - that are new, scary, and extremely uncomfortable for me because I would rather be uncomfortable than have you miss out on what you need right now...for your emotional health, your relationships, and your desire to live with impact.

And if you delay facing the areas that are new or challenging for you, others will miss out too.

You matter. You can make a difference. I'm so thankful you're here.
