What have we done to deserve this?
Here is part 3 in the video series about why we have George Floyd statues, despite him having been tried and convicted of previous crimes.
In the first part, we explored what they represent about a movement and catalyst for justice beyond one person's life (and death).
In the second part, we considered when a person is again worthy of being seen as a whole person and having their life honored.
Now, in this last 7 1/2 minute video, we have the chance to scratch beneath the surface to look at the contexts in which crimes are more likely to occur, and how we contribute to conditions of vulnerability. We also reflect on what criteria we use for celebration and statues of other people throughout the past and present.
These videos (along with a few others) are now publicly available on YouTube thanks to a helpful nudge. Being relatively new to all social media, as many of you know, I hadn't realized that in making them "unlisted" it meant you could only access them directly through the link.
This opens up a new world of comments, likes, and dislikes, so let's try to keep the conversations and dialogues on there productive and aligned with the goals of making this world, and all our interactions (online and off), compassionate and just.
You matter. You can make a difference. I'm so thankful you're here.
