What can I do?

Do you find yourself asking this question - What can I do?  It's the one I hear the most frequently.

You care, you want to contribute to justice and social progress, and yet nothing seems like it will really make a difference.

It's such a normal feeling.  In fact, isn't caring while feeling uncertain of the outcome pretty normal in all areas?  (That certainly doesn't make it feel any better, does it!?!)

Whether it's parenting, friendships, work, or donating to charitable causes...you can rarely feel certain of the results and impact you're having and how it will impact the future.

It's part of why solving these "big" longstanding problems of injustice is so hard - there's such a long history behind them and each action we take feels so small and insignificant in comparison.

That's why I love stories like this one, about a lawyer, doing her job defending those who cannot afford representation, and making an effort to educate and work for social justice at the same time.

Working with people with whom she presumably differs greatly in perspective, yet taking the opportunity to improve the world around her.

She may never know the full impact of her efforts.  She likely won't.

And that's not stopping her.

I hope you're encouraged that even if you never know how far your efforts reach, you are making a difference beyond what you can imagine.

You matter.  You can make a difference.  I'm so thankful you're here.
