Honor Juneteenth with Kendi

In honor of Juneteenth, here is a great listen - a Vox podcast with Ibram X. Kendi interviewed by Fabiola Cineas.  May I suggest that you listen, rather than just read the abbreviated article?  It's worth your time.

Ibram X. Kendi is one of those people I'd love to just sit down and listen to for hours.  The amount of information he can integrate is awesome.  And his perspective on where we are, and where we are headed, is both sobering and hopeful.

This Juneteenth we celebrate recognition of a new federal holiday - the first since Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was established.  If you are one of the majority who was never taught about Juneteenth, Juneteenth.com can help.

In this age of instant and constant news, it's hard to fathom any news taking that long to travel anywhere. Yet news of the Emancipation Proclamation was delayed 2 1/2 years in reaching Galveston, TX - an extra 2 1/2 YEARS of enslavement.

May this serve as a symbol and reminder of the hard won gains and the many steps left to be taken.  May we continue to reflect on how we continue to uphold racist structures and practices today...

And may this inspire us to continue to practice ways to move, again and again, toward justice and compassion.

You matter.  You can make a difference.  I'm so thankful you're here.
