ummm, that’s not me 😳
I've had an "interesting" start to the year...which is a positive spin on quite a few random and inconvenient challenges.
Nothing major, thankfully, just irritants that require unplanned time and energy.
They mostly derived from preparations to speak at the Equity 2023: Love in Action Conference where I'll facilitate a presentation on Self-Compassion: The Catalyst for Greater Social Impact.
Without dragging you through the details of multiple conundrums, let me just summarize with the culmination (so far! 😂)...
Yesterday, when I began planning my conference schedule, I noticed a totally different person's name, picture, website, and business listed as the speaker for my talk! 😳
I admit it threw me for a loop. I was baffled.
I repurposed an hour of intended preparation time going back through emails, contacting conference administrators, and reviewing the site to understand what happened. 🔁
I was nowhere to be found! 😜
I reached out to the listed speaker, who has become a new friend over the past few months, and asked if she is planning to attend or speak at the conference…
Maybe this is a serendipitous, small-world, phenomenon of our profiles and talks simply getting mixed up?
Nope...but she did help solve the mystery... A tech issue resulted from a ticket I'd given her to a totally separate event (that was using the same conference platform)…and somehow the identity switcharoo showed up!
By the end of my next meeting, the conference had corrected the information and all that remained was refocusing on my memorization.
While this seems like a totally random event, it also feels familiar...and I imagine you've been there, too.
Where does your identity get "lost" or "switched" in the shuffle?
How often are you going along preparing for one thing when something unexpected disrupts your plan and drains your time and energy?
And, most importantly, how do you respond and recover when something throws you off balance?
Ironically, this practice of re-centering consistently, quickly, and effectively is at the core of the presentation I'll facilitate next week, as it is at the center of so much of my work with changemakers.
If something is throwing you off today, how might you tune into the physical, mental, and emotional cues of your unique being...and respond to their cues with self-compassion?
Remember, no matter what the “website” says, only you can show up as your healthy, whole self! 😉
You matter. You can make a difference. I'm so thankful you're here.
And, if this is the type of topic that would benefit you, your organization, or your team, please reach out. Let's schedule a time to discuss how I can be of service.
