support for lasting change

Are you "doing too much"?

So many of the people I talk with - including many socially conscious leaders, human resources and DEI professionals, therapists, and coaches (along with those in unrecognized roles that care deeply about equity and inclusion and act on these values) - are exhausted and trying to find ways to balance everything they care about against their own capacity and wellbeing.

They don't want to stop the great work they are doing, and know progress can't afford to slow down...yet they are feeling the toll in their mood, their energy, and their motivation.

Perhaps you can relate.

It has me thinking about what really contributes to positive change, and how to maximize impact while protecting against the tremendous toll that the emotional labor of changemaking exacts.

The 80/20 rule of productivity states that 80% of your results derive from 20% of your efforts.

Yet, what is the 20% that is most effective? What can be set aside, delayed, or decreased?

It's not always clear.

What is clear is how often emotions, health, self-care, and wellbeing get sidelined for other tasks, strategies, or efforts that are assumed to be "more productive" or "higher priority."

How often do you treat listening - and responding - to the messages from your...

Mood
Emotions
Nervous system

...as part of your top 20%?

What is so often treated as a luxury, after-thought, or "bonus" for getting enough done is actually the key to maximizing not just productivity, but sustainable and ongoing impact.

To truly produce lasting positive change, we need:

1). Safety to be vulnerable, recognize, and explore the problem(s).

2). Positive reinforcement of a new way of being, doing, or thinking...without shaming.

3). Relationships and communities that affirm, encourage, and empower.

4). Calling forward. Invitation and inspiration to imagine what is possible.

5.) Spaces that create protection against isolation, perfectionism, and judgment and reflect back your inherent worth.

Whether we reflect on individual change, or large societal change, many of these same conditions and prerequisites apply.

Where are these needs being met for you and by you?

How can you reinforce them to better support your growth and transformation?

You matter. You can make a difference. I’m so thankful you’re here.

If you or your organization could use some support in creating or nurturing these conditions of lasting positive change, please reach out for a conversation.
